SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) is a free, confidential, and impartial Medicare counseling resource. Volunteer SHIBA advisors are highly experienced in counseling Medicare-eligible residents of all ages and backgrounds, trained to help you understand your rights and options by offering up-to-date information so you can make informed decisions related to your health insurance needs.

If you do not have health insurance, an Outreach and Enrollment Specialist can tell you what you may qualify for and walk you through the application process.

Free or low-cost health insurance. Coverage includes primary care, emergency visits, maternity services, pediatric care, dental services, vision care, prescription medications and more.

Helps cover services from doctors and other health care providers, outpatient care, home health care, durable medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, and other equipment), and many preventive services (screenings, shots or vaccines, and yearly “Wellness” visits). (Included in Original Medicare)

Helps cover the cost of prescription drugs. You can join a Medicare drug plan in addition to Original Medicare (Parts A and B), or you get it by joining a Medicare Advantage Plan with drug coverage (Part C). Plans that offer Medicare drug coverage are run by private insurance companies that follow rules set by Medicare.

Helps cover inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care. (Included in Original Medicare)

A Medicare-approved plan from a private company that offers an alternative to Original Medicare for your health and drug coverage. These “bundled” plans include Part A, Part B, and usually Part D. Plans may have lower out-of-pocket costs than Original Medicare, and may offer some extra benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, like vision, hearing, and dental services.

Trained staff available to help with the healthcare enrollment process. Certified Navigators can explain eligibility, enrollment, and program rules;\nhelp understand the benefits and costs of each health plan; review options and complete enrollment while protecting confidentiality and privacy.

Washington residents who do not have prescription drug insurance coverage, or have limited coverage, can enroll in the ArrayRx Discount Card program to purchase their medications at a discounted price. The card will give you discounts on prescription drugs not covered by your insurance plan, can be used by Medicare beneficiaries who do not have Part D coverage, or provide prescription discounts for those on high deductible plans.

Adults with Apple Health/ Medicaid health insurance are eligible for in-person and tele-counseling sessions.

Pregnant individuals and parents of infants who have Apple Health/ Medicaid health insurance are eligible to receive: assistance applying for SNAP/ Basic Food benefits, Childcare Subsidy, and PFML benefits; nutritionist advice; help accessing medical and behavioral health care; and monthly gift cards for participating in Culturally Responsive Integrated & Strength-Based Parenting (CRISP) classes.

If your child is on Apple Health medical, has special health care needs, and is 3 years or older, you can use the Apple Health Provider One medical to buy diapers from eligible vendors. Limit 200 diapers per month. See link for more details.

A state Medicaid program (formerly Medicaid Personal Care, or MPC) for people on Medicaid who need help with activities of daily living, including eating, dressing, bathing, or mobility. The program is administered by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), even for people who are not eligible for DDA. Personal Care services are typically provided in your home.

Mental health and substance use counseling. Costs are covered if you are on Medicaid through Amerigroup, Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW), Molina, or United Healthcare. NWRC is not able to accept Medicaid fee-for-service, Coordinated Care, Medicare, private pay, or private insurance at this time.

Unity Care NW offers patients the convenience of on-site pharmacy services. The pharmacy works closely with Unity Care NW's care team to make filling prescriptions safer and easier.

Prioritizes dental care for the following groups: pregnant women, parents of UCNW pediatric patients, established UCNW pediatric dental patients once they reach adulthood, people living with HIV, developmentally disabled patients, adults with dental emergencies, UCNW medical patients with certain health conditions who are referred by their provider.\nEmergency dental care is available to anyone living in Whatcom County. Coordinated primary medical and dental care for children and adolescents, including well-child visits, newborn care, developmental screenings, immunizations, sports exams, and specialty referrals.

Offers comprehensive primary care, dental, behavioral health, and prevention services for patients living with infectious disease conditions, including HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted infections.

Provides behavioral health services integrated with medical care, including traditional counseling and psychiatric services, substance use disorder (SUD) counseling, support and wellness groups, and case management services to help patients access other community resources.

Provides dental care to children, pregnant women, and the parents of children who are UCNW patients.

A full range of primary medical services, including well-child exams, immunizations, women’s health care, gender affirming care, on-site testing and laboratory services, behavioral health care, care of chronic illnesses, reproductive health and contraception, and sexually-transmitted disease testing and treatment.
