Participants and their siblings have opportunities to make new friends, play games, do crafts, hear children’s stories, enjoy music, and more, while their parents get a break from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities. A seasonal program offered to Max Higbee members that incorporates outdoor skills such as environmental stewardship, map reading and navigation, plant identification, healthy hiking snacks, and trail games.

Max Higbee Center members are paired with a Community Engagement provider to receive one-on-one support to introduce community resources and create lasting relationships, develop goals and strategies, and learn skills that will facilitate integration into the community. This program is contracted through DDA and must be approved by your case manager prior to program start.

Whatcom Clubhouse is a nonclinical social rehabilitation approach to address mental illness and is considered a ‘Peer Run and Support Program’. Any adult Whatcom County resident with a mental health diagnosis can apply for a free membership, which allows participating in structured, social daily activities at the Clubhouse location.
